Win over No. 11 DMACC highlights opening weekend for Mott

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Mott Community College volleyball team opened the 2024 season with four games over two days last weekend at the All In Tournament in Rockford, Ill. 

The Bears opened with a pair of losses on Friday, falling 3-1 (25-9, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16) to No. 10 Heartland Community College, before dropping a second four-set match to Ellsworth Community College 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-12). 

Mott bounced back on day two with a pair of wins including a sweep of No. 11 Des Moines Area Community College (25-21, 25-22, 25-22). The team closed the event with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19) victory over John A. Logan College to return home with a record of 2-2. 

Highlights:

• Ruby Earl led the offense with 54 kills (3.60 p/s), including 22 in the win over John A. Logan, while adding a team-high 10 service aces in the four matches. She finished with 32 digs and six total blocks.

• Montgomery Rotter added 26 kills, 27 digs, one block, and five service aces.

• In her first weekend with the Bears, Chloe Vanwinkle recorded 26 kills, 18 digs, three total blocks, and six service aces. 

• Princess Savage added 15 kills and five total blocks, while Courtney Nye added 13 kills and three service aces. 

• Setter Skylar Cramer recorded 121 total assists in the four matches, including a season-high 35 in the weekend finale. She added a team-high 40 total digs and two service aces.

The Bears travel to the SC4 Tournament for a pair of matches starting against Owens Community College at 4 pm on Wednesday in Port Huron, Mich.
