Balius with 8 hits to lead Bears to DH sweep

HOWELL, Mich. - The Mott Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Cleary University JV team on Monday in Howell, Mich. 

The Bears scored four in the first and fifth in game one to take the opener 10-4. In the second game, Mott jumped out to a six-run lead and put the win away late for a 12-4 victory. The wins push the Bears to 11-8 overall this season. 

Game One Highlights:

• Gavin Balius went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, and two stolen bases. 

• Quinn Schultz added two hits, a triple, an RBI, a run scored, and two walks.

• Luke Ellis recorded one hit, three RBIs, and two runs.

• Tobias Ransley finished with two hits, two runs, an RBI, a walk, and a double.

• Dillon Kielan (1-0) pitched four innings, earning the win. He allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits, walking one and striking out three. 

• Peyton Jackson, pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless action to earn the save (2), while striking out three. 

Game Two Highlights:

• Balius added another four hits, while recording three runs, one RBI, and two stolen bases.

• Ellis recorded two hits, two RBIs, one run, and a walk.

• Schultz went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. 

• Nathan Deleruyelle had a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. 

• Michael Jockwig (2-1) got the win on the mound with 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, walking three, and striking out five. 

• Avery Kordyzon earned the save (1). He went 3.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits, and struck out three.

The Bears return to MCCAA play with a home doubleheader against Schoolcraft College starting at 2 pm on Thursday.
