Bears Split in Battle of MCCAA Leaders

FLINT - The Mott Community College baseball team started its pivotal four-game series with Henry Ford College with a doubleheader on Thursday in Flint.

Down two heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Mott rally fell short in a 4-3 loss in game one. The Bears jumped in front early in game two with five runs in the first and held on for an 8-4 win to earn a split. 

The split moved Mott to 16-14 overall and 10-5 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. 

Game One Highlights:

• Ryan Metz went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a walk. 

• Ethan Wills added two hits, including a double. 

• Benjamin Korson and Malaki Edwards each added a hit and a run. 

• Conor Sweeny started and went 5.2 innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits, walking three and striking out four. 

• Hayden Vinyard (0-2) took the loss in relief. 

Game Two Highlights: 

• Wills finished with two hits, a double, two RBIs, two runs, and a walk. 

• Korson and Luke Trotter each added a hit, one run, and a steal. 

• Bryce Neitzel recorded a double and an RBI. 

• Carson Haddad moved to 4-0 on the season, starting a tossing six innings. He allowed one unearned run on four hits, walking one and striking out two. 

• Aidan Cassidy (2) tossed a scoreless inning for the save, striking out two.

The series wraps up with a doubleheader at Henry Ford College at 1 pm on Saturday in Dearborn, Mich.
