Ellison, Schmidt milestones highlight 2023-24 MBB season

FLINT - The Mott Community College men's basketball team closed the 2023-24 season in early March, closing with a record of 22-7 overall and 9-5 in the MCCAA. The season ended with a seven-point road loss in the quarterfinal of the Great lakes District A Tournament.

The season was highlighted by the 800th-career win for legendary head coach Steve Schmidt and a new all-time scoring leader. Mehki Ellison closed his second year with the Bears with a total of 1,394 career points. He averaged 27.5 points per game in 2023-24, adding 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.8 steals and hit a team-high 46 three pointers. Ellison was named to the NJCAA Region XII Division II All-Region and the All-MCCAA Teams.

Also named to the NJCAA Region XII Division II All-Region and the All-MCCAA Teams was forward Vincent Mayes. The Chicago native finished third in the nation in total blocks with 93, adding 11.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
