Benner powers Mott to sweep of Macomb

WARREN, Mich. - The Mott Community College softball team continued its dominance of the MCCAA Eastern Conference with a road sweep of Macomb Community College on Saturday in Warren, Mich. 

The Bears held off a late rally for a 6-2 win in game one. Mott scored three in the fifth to take a lead and went on for a 6-3 win in game two. The sweep moved Mott to 29-7 overall and 20-1 in the MCCAA. The Bears have won 18 straight MCCAA Eastern Conference games. 

Game One Highlights: 

• Emma Benner finished with two hits, a home run, one run, and one RBI. 

• Heaven Helkowski added two hits, three RBIs, one run, a walk, and a steal. 

• Cassie Sylvester recorded a hit, one RBI, a steal, and a walk. 

• Arika Hines (13-2) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out seven. 

Game Two Highlights: 

• Benner hit her second home run of the game, while adding a double. She finished with three hits, five RBIs, and two runs scored. 

• Sylvester added two hits, a double, two runs, and a walk. 

• Josie Spencer recorded three hits. 

• Maggie Boehm (15-4) got the win, allowing three runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings, walking five and striking out three. 

• Hines earned her second save of the year, going 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one walk and striking out five. 

Up Next:

The Bears will resume a contest in the bottom of the second against St. Clair County Community College at 4 pm on Tuesday in Port Huron, Mich.
