Bears win three at Owens Tournament

PERRYSBURG, Ohio - The Mott Community College volleyball team had a strong 3-1 weekend at the Owens Community College Tournament last weekend in Perrysburg, Ohio. 

The Bears started with a five-set win over NJCAA DI foe Vincennes University (25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-12) on Friday. Mott dropped its second match on day one in five, after storming back from down 2-0 against St. Johns River State College to force a fifth set (25-15, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 15-12).

Day two included a pair of sweeps for the Bears, first against Lakeland Community College (25-21, 25-23, 25-9). Mott closed the weekend with a win over Lorain County Community College (25-15, 25-13, 26-24).

Mott sits at 6-4 overall this season. 

Highlights vs. Vincennes:

• Chloe Vanwinkle recorded a team-high 21 kills, adding 11 digs.

• Montgomery Rotter had 15 kills to go along with 15 digs. 

• Ruby Earl finished with 13 kills and five total blocks.

• Skylar Cramer added 47 assists and a team-high 17 digs. 

Highlights vs. SJRSC:

• Earl led the offense with 13 kills. 

• Rotter and Vanwinkle added 12 kills each. Rotter had a team-best 17 digs. 

• Cramer added 41 assists and 12 digs, while Princess Savage finished with four total blocks. 

Highlights vs. Lakeland:

• Rotter led the offense with 13 kills, adding nine digs. 

• Cramer had 28 assists, while Vanwinkle recorded 14 digs and five service aces. 

Highlights vs. LCCC:

• Rotter recorded 13 kills, while Earl added 11. 

• Cramer paced the offense with 37 assists, adding seven digs. 

• Chloe Wright had a team-high 11 digs, while Brooklyn Wilcox finished with six digs and three service aces.

The Bears host their first home match of the season against Lansing Community College (RV) at 6 pm on Monday at the Ballenger Fieldhouse.
