Bears run streak to five with sweep of Owls

FLINT - The Mott Community College softball teams earned a second straight sweep this week, taking two from Oakland Community College on Thursday in Flint. 

The Bears shutout the Owls 8-0 in game one, ending the game with three runs in the sixth. Mott jumped out to a five run lead in the fourth inning of game two and held on for an 8-4 win. The sweep moved Mott to 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. 

Game One Highlights:

• Arika Hines went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a steal. 

• Emma Benner had two hits, including a double, while adding three RBIs and a steal.

• Heaven Helkowski recorded two hits, two runs scored, one RBI, and a steal. 

• Cassie Sylvester had one hit, an RBI, two runs, and a steal. 

• Maggie Boehm (6-3) got the win on the mound, tossing all six scoreless innings, allowing two hits, while walking two and striking out three. 

Game Two Highlights: 

• Sylvester finished with two hits, including a double, adding two RBIs, and a run scored. 

• Eva Opper recorded two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. 

• Benner added two hits, including a double, with an RBI, one run, and two walks. 

• Helkowski recorded one hit, an RBI, two runs, a walk and a steal. 

• Boehm (7-3) got her second win of the day, going six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out four.
